Today a very small post. The website is not yet online. I decided to take some more time to spend thinking on content. In the meanwhile I have also been with busy other things, including a long awaited visit to an Anbu Illam project in the slums. Further, a small update on the boxing classes, on our new library, and on a visit to the beach with the girls.
Slums
A group of three people from a Dutch sponsor organization visited Anbu Illam. Together with Fr. Alphonse we took them on a round of the projects, including two projects in the slums. There is a small school and a tayloring center run by Anbu Illam. The children of the slums were very enthousiastic about our visit, as they always are. In one of the slums we visited a small center were blackboard chalk was made by hand. A picture of the drying process is included.
Boxing class
I think I finally managed to find some way to deal with the problem of having too many students and only one teacher. The idea is to select four boys for training and another four for coaching. I tried it a few times and it goes reasonably well. I currently have three pairs of boxing gloves, a pair of pads and four skipping ropes. Everything was bought with money from my dear sponsors. Thanks, also from the boys.
Another problem that there are always many new boys. And many of these are also interested.
Library
We are setting up a library. Kids can borrow books for two days, after which they have to return them to either me, Rieke or the warden. The method has not yet been tried. Books again have been bought with sponsor money.
Beach
Eefje, the new volunteer from the Netherlands has arrived. Third day of her stay was her birthday. For that occasion she took the girls of Anbu Illam's girls' shelter to the beach. I and Rieke went with them. It was a very nice day. Good temperature, both inside and outside of the water. There were about thirty girls.
I have almost passed half of our stay here. Time has gone by so quickly. The 9th of May I am coming back.

Hallo Bart, de laatste weken zijn ingegaan en we hebben begrepen dat je nu aan het reizen bent. Je zult een hele ervaring rijker zijn. Leuk om te lezen hoe het sponsorgeld besteed wordt en de kinderen lol hebben met de boxsport ed. Een hele goede terugreis en groeten van Frans en Gerry

He Bart! Quanto tempo! Eindelijk heb ik de tijd genomen om je site eens goed te bekijken. Mooie foto's, lieve kinderen (althans, zo zien ze eruit). Gaaf dat je je creativiteit kunt gebruiken met bokslessen en de bibliotheek. Wellicht gaat ook een klein beetje van mijn IBG-leninkje naar jouw rekening. Met mijn studie ontwijkende vaardigheden gaat het overigens erg goed (Esther heeft zo haar specialiteiten). Afgelopen week nog een capoeiralesje meegepikt, dus Paturi ook weer blij (nu nog volhouden!). Hij mist je geloof ik. Afstuderen is dus nog steeds niet klaar, maar kwaliteit kost teit zeg ik maar alteit. Bart, leer nog veel bij de laatste maanden. Veel plezier en ik zie je wellicht in mei even.

Hai Bart, Leuk je verhalen, weer even op de hoogte. Knap hoe je het box dilemme probeert te controleren, want les krijgen van een enthousiaste blanke jongen is natuurlijk altijd leuk en nieuw!! Het stimuleert meteen hun engels, of doe je alles is vloeiend Tamil?? Leuk dat Eefje ook bij jullie is gekomen, ondanks een andere locatie. ik hoop dat dat klikt. Alles nog goed met Lieke en jou??
